Win/Win Today For America

It appears a suicide may be televised on C-Span today. The House is probably going to vote on Obamacare this afternoon. If the resolution is passed, you’ll get to see the Democratic Party, and probably the president, commit political suicide on your TV. Even now, Democrats are trying to whip up enough voted to get the bill passed.

I find it astounding that a year after the Democrats slaughtered the Republican Party in 2008 that they find themselves in such dire political straits. It really has been a case of colossal mismanagement of the country. It’s really incredible that the president needs to come to the Hill today to beg for votes. Then again, a lot of Democrats are probably thinking its about time President Obama take his vote out of the “Present” column and places his fingerprints on this mess. Especially if a “yes” vote might mean the end of their careers in the House.

Of course, the House passing this bill doesn’t guarantee that it will become law. That bill has to be merged with a slightly less liberal (and no less preposterous) Senate bill. I see the whole thing dying next year. If, however, the Democratic version of health care reform is passed, that party will pay for it in 2010 and well beyond, when the American people find out exactly what the “change” they voted for really costs.

Americans win also if Democratic health care reform goes down in defeat next year or, especially, today. If the bill dies today, it’ll be a wake up call to progressives, Obama in particular, that this country must be governed from the center….more accurately, as unpalatable as it may be for Pelosi , Reid and Obama, a bit right of center.
